Capel Iago
James’s Chapel

Capel Iago means James’s Chapel. A thousand years of history, a family sawmill and, today, handcrafted shepherd huts, all from the same corner of West Wales.

A monastery, once

A monastery is believed to have once stood on this land. Its stone was later used to build the vestry of nearby St Peter’s Church in Llanybydder and Capel Iago farmhouse. Two ancient yew trees remain, one recently dated by an expert at around 1,200 years old.

From sheep farm to sawmill

The Stephens family have worked this West Wales land since 1979. In the late 1980s, the late John Stephens opened a small sawmill, specialising in reclaimed oak beams and hardwood flooring. After his passing in 2010, the timber he left behind became part of a lasting family tradition.

Rustic Huts today

Today, Tim and Rhiannon continue that tradition, handcrafting bespoke shepherd huts, rustic furniture and log cabins using reclaimed and locally grown timber. Every hut is made by hand in West Wales, combining traditional craftsmanship with unique character, for customers across the UK and Europe.
